چکیده
bacteria, an altered immune response, an altered histiocytic response or intrinsically abnormal macrophages [5]. The most common site of infection in females is the urinary tract and it is associated with infection with Gram-negative organisms, mainly Escherichia coli and Klebsiella sp. The extragenitourinary sites that are involved are the skin and the pulmonary, renal and gastrointestinal tract. Other microorganisms associated with malakoplakia are Rhodococci equi, Mycobacteria sp., Pasteurella multocida, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Yersinia sp., Staphylococcus aurues and fungal infection [6–9]. Thus, in cases such as ours where no positive microbiology is obtained, antibiotics covering Gram-positive and -negative organisms should perhaps be used for at least 2 weeks. So far, less than 40 cases of pulmonary malakoplakia have been reported and there is therefore little evidence for definite treatment.

Inherited disorders of neonatal lung diseases.
Although genetic factors are assumed to have a role in the etiology of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), specific genes underlying this susceptibility are incompletely known. The most promising candidates are the genes coding for the lung-specific protein components of the surfactant. In congenital absence of surfactant protein A in mice, lung mechanics or surfactant homeostasis is normal. H...
متن کاملAllelic heterogeneity in hereditary surfactant protein B (SP-B) deficiency.
Inability to produce surfactant protein B (SP-B) causes fatal neonatal respiratory disease. A frame-shift mutation (121ins2) is the predominant but not exclusive cause of disease. To determine the range of mechanisms responsible for SP-B deficiency, both alleles from 32 affected infants were characterized. Sixteen infants were homozygous for the 121ins2 mutation, 10 infants were heterozygous fo...
متن کاملInterstitial lung disease in a baby with a de novo mutation in the SFTPC gene.
Mutations in the surfactant protein C gene (SFTPC) were recently reported in patients with interstitial lung disease. In a 13-month-old infant with severe respiratory insufficiency, a lung biopsy elicited combined histological patterns of nonspecific interstitial pneumonia and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis. Immunohistochemical and biochemical analyses showed an intra-alveolar accumulation of s...

damage on high-resolution computed tomography despite stable lung function in cystic fibrosis. We read with great interest the report by BRASCH et al. [1] on a case of interstitial lung disease (ILD) due to a de novo heterozygous missense mutation in the surfactant protein-C gene (SFTPC), which resulted in the substitution of threonine for isoleucine in codon 73 of the propeptide of the surfact...
متن کاملA New Mutation Causing Severe Infantile-Onset Pompe Disease Responsive to Enzyme Replacement Therapy
Pompe disease (PD), also known as “glycogen storage disease type II (OMIM # 232300)” is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by progressive glycogen accumulation in cellular lysosomes. It ultimately leads to cellular damage. Infantile-onset Pompe disease (IOPD) is the most severe type of this disease and is characterized by severe hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and generalized hypoton...
